Checkers rules and captures
Regular pieces move one dark square diagonally forward. A capture jumps an adjacent
opposing piece into the empty square beyond it. In this version, a capture may be
mandatory, so check the whole board before planning a quiet move. If another jump is
available after a capture, continue the sequence. Reach the far row to crown a king,
which can move and capture in both directions.
Opening tactics and the mandatory-capture trap
Keep pieces connected so one checker protects another, and avoid opening your back row
too early. A tempting capture can be a trap if it forces your piece onto a square where
the opponent can jump it next. Before every move, look for all forced captures, then
compare the board position after the complete exchange rather than after the first jump.

Is checkers a game of luck or skill?
Checkers is a perfect-information strategy game. There is no dice roll or hidden hand, so results depend on decisions, tactics, and experience.
